Word is an independent bookstore that opened its doors in 2007. For a long time it was their only location until 2013 when they decided to expand out into Jersey City. Nevertheless, it is still an adored shop off of Franklin Street. They open up every morning at 10am and keep their doors open until 9pm.
They carry a fantastically large collection of books for such a small space. Everything from cookbooks to childrens books, and old classics to NYT best sellers. They excel in paperback fiction, which takes up a sizeable portion of the shelf space. Your best bet is to keep an open mind when looking for a book, and will probably find a hidden gem that you didn’t know existed. Along with the books, they carry stationery, cards, and other paper goods up front. They also hold Q&A events, author readings, and potluck dinners. They are active in the neighborhood – pretty impressive for a place that is roughly 100 square feet.
Word is the best bookstore in Greenpoint. It balances its small space with an eclectic inventory and stays active within the community. Stop by for a well-priced book and some good conversation with other passionate readers.
