Permanent Records was the first dedicated music shop in the area. They are located on Franklin St. and are just a short walk from the G train. Don’t try to get your music fix too early, though. They open their doors at noon and close at 8pm every day.
They stock New and Used LPs, CDs, DVDs, 45s & 12s in all genres. Their goal is to have something for everyone. Although I think your time best spent is digging through records with no real end goal in mind. It’s a fantastic place to discover new music. It is catalogued well, easy to navigate, and split up into mediums. They staff is very helpful, and often helps inform your decision – even if you don’t know what you want. They are also extremely knowledgeable of the equipment and offer replacement parts and protective equipment.
Their record collection is enormous and in great condition. While a handful of record shops have popped up in the area, none really come close to the service, selection, and confidence Permanent Records exudes. Stop by for a nostalgic CD, a classic LP, or a gift for a friend. There’s something for everyone.
